Computers, digital media, and information technology have transformed work and workplaces in major ways, and that includes changing what "freedom of speech" means for American workers. In his new book Speechless: The Erosion of Free Expression in the American Workplace, Bruce Barry critically assesses the state of free speech for individuals on and off the job.

The focus of this event is on digital speech and how employers struggle with the opportunities and threats in play when employees express themselves through technology and new media.

Bruce Barry is Professor of Management and Sociology at Vanderbilt University, where he teaches courses on power and influence in organizations, business and society, negotiation, and the sociology of media and technology. His research on behavior at work, including power, conflict, justice, and negotiation, has appeared in many scholarly journals and volumes. He also writes about business ethics, workplace rights, and public policy issues at the intersection of business and society.


Professor Barry will be interviewed by Dorian Benkoil.
