THE NEW YORK CHAPTER OF THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF TELEVISION ARTS AND SCIENCES ANNOUNCES ITS 2013 GOVERNORS’ AWARD RECIPIENT
 
Thirteen to be Honored at the Black-Tie Gala
 
New York, NY, March 1, 2013– Each year, the Board of Governors of the New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences may choose to recognize an individual, company, or organization with the prestigious Governors’ Award. This honorary Emmy® acknowledges outstanding achievements in the television industry. This year the Board of the New York Chapter unanimously selected Thirteen as the recipient of the 2013 Governors’ Award, to recognize its exceptional contributions to our region over the last 50 years.  
 
Since 1962, the Governors’ Award has honored those that have made a substantial impact and demonstrated an extraordinary use of television. The feats and accomplishments of these individuals, companies and organizations are remarkable and unique, falling beyond the scope of our annual awards.
 
New York’s Thirteen, the flagship station of PBS, has continued to build upon its lineup for the past five decades, producing engaging programmingfor its viewers, such as Nature, Great Performances, American Masters, Need to Know, and Cyberchase, Thirteen also broadcasts well-known series such as NOVA, Masterpiece, Antiques Roadshow as well as the much-loved children’s program, Sesame Street.  
 
"For 50 years Thirteen has been serving New York and the Tri-State area with programs that educate, inspire and enlighten" said Neal Shapiro, President and CEO of Thirteen. "And to be recognized with the Governors’ Award from the New York Chapter of NATAS is an incredible honor."

The Governors’ Award will be presented at the 56th New York Emmy® Awards, an annual ceremony recognizing the outstanding work of New York’s finest media professionals in over 100 Emmy® categories. The black-tie affair, attended by nearly 1,000 esteemed guests, will be held at the Marriott Marquis, Times Square on Sunday, April 14, 2013.
