As 2018 unfolds, I want to thank all of our members for their support of the New York Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. 2017 was a monumental year. In addition to celebrating our 60th Annual New York Emmy (R) Awards last May, we also honored 11 extraordinary individuals who have made significant contributions to our industry. We held the second Gold and Silver Circle Induction luncheon at The Lambs Club on Thursday, November 30, 2017 to spotlight exceptional trailblazers in New York media. Maury Povich and Marvin Scott were present to accept their membership in the Gold Cirlce for their 50+ years of service. Both have also made special contributions to our New York Chapter. We also honored 9 people with a Silver Circle Induction for their 25+ years of service. Bruce Brauer, Esteban Creste, Andy DeSantis, Pat Dolan, Mark Fetner, John Filippelli, Susan Lucci, Dana Tyler, and Mary Alice Williams were members of the Class of 2017. 2017 was also a year of transitions. Lauren Loverde worked at the New York Chapter for six years. Most recently, she served as the Director of Awards and Communications. I want to thank Lauren for her contributions the past several years, and wish her well in her new pursuits in the music industry. Sean Schenk was promoted and is our new Director of Awards and Communications. He is hard at work this Emmy season. Nominations for the 61st Annual New York Emmy Awards will occur on Thursday, February 22 at 11AM. We will live stream the event from the CUNY studios. Our gala is slated for Saturday, April 14. I hope everyone can join us for this special occasion.
Membership has its benefits. Acting Membership and Marketing Manager, Cristina Merone, is available to register people or renew their memberships. Please take advantage of the many discounts that we offer, and the many events we sponsor. Encourage a friend to join us. This is your chapter. Let us know what your priorities are.
Finally, I would like to thank the members of the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee for the significant time and energy they gave to make the New York Chapter better each year. Phyllis Bishop and Jason Palmer are also to be commended for their many contributions.
