Dear NY NATAS Members,

This is ordinarily the time when our members reflect on their work over the past year, and begin to consider their submissions for The New York Emmy Awards.

I am pleased to announce that the Board of Governors and I have changed the Emmy eligibility period. The 2019-2020 Emmy Year has been extended through the end of 2020. Thereafter, this change will be permanent, allowing the Emmy Year to coincide with the calendar year.

We made this change due to the pandemic and the resulting disruption to our industry. We will issue our Call For Entries on January 1, 2021 and will accept submissions through March 1, 2021. In other words, this year’s eligibility period will begin on September 1, 2019 and will extend through December 31, 2020. Although a date and venue have not been selected for our 2021 awards gala, it will likely take place in late September.

We are aware that many of you who were awarded Emmys this year are still awaiting your statues. We apologize for the delay and greatly appreciate your patience. The New York Chapter is now required to collect sales tax on the statues, and we have filed an application with the State of New York which, if approved, will allow us to do so. But the process has become an ordeal for us, as the wheels of state government move even slower in a pandemic.

As soon as we are permitted to collect the sales tax, be assured, we will process your orders without further delay.

I hope you’ve managed to enjoy the summer of 2020, despite the surreal circumstances.

Best regards,

N. J. Burkett, President
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, New York Chapter
