As 2019 unfolds, I want to thank all of our members for their support of the New York Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences during 2018.  We celebrated and awarded excellence at our 61st Annual New York Emmy® Awards last April.  We also honored 10 extraordinary individuals who have made significant contributions to our industry.  We held the third Gold & Silver Circle Induction Ceremony at The Lambs Club on Thursday, November 29th to spotlight exceptional trailblazers in New York media.  Diane Sawyer and Chuck Scarborough were inducted into the Gold Circle for their 50+ years of service.  We also honored 8 people with a Silver Circle Induction for their 25+ years of service. Scott Clark, David Friend, Dr. Max Gomez, Christopher Goutman, Curt Gowdy, Jr., David Hyman, Sue Simmons, and Jacquie Walker are members of the Class of 2018.  The photos and bios of the honorees are in this issue, along with a link to view the induction ceremony.

Sean Schenk, the Director of Awards and Communications, has been immersed in our new awards season.  We had 2021 entries submitted in the recently completed Call for Entries.  Although there is tremendous change occurring in the media industry, I am pleased to report that this is the second largest number of entries that the New York Chapter has received.  We will announce nominations for the 62nd Annual New York Emmy Awards on Wednesday, February 20th at 11AM.  We will live stream the event from the CUNY studios.  Our gala will be held on Saturday, May 4th. I hope everyone can join us for this special occasion.

I announced the New York Chapter’s association with the Sharecare Foundation at our 60th Anniversary New York Emmy Awards.  All New York Chapter nominees in the Health & Science categories from the 2017 and 2018 awards were eligible to submit their nominated entry/entries to the Sharecare Awards with a special waiver.  Several of our nominees did utilize this partnership to submit entries.  The inaugural Sharecare Awards will be presented in Atlanta on Thursday, March 14th. Good luck to our New York Chapter colleagues!

Membership has its benefits.  Acting Membership and Marketing Manager, Ailette Artiles, is available to register people or renew their memberships. Please take advantage of the many discounts that we offer, and the many events we sponsor. Encourage a friend to join us. This is your chapter. Let us know what your priorities are.

Congratulations to New York Chapter member Marian Massaro, the voice of the New York Emmy Awards!  She will once again be using her talents in California.  She will be the announcer for The 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® (SAG) on Sunday, January 27th at 8PM. The awards will be live on both TNT and TBS.

Finally, I would like to thank the members of the Board of Governors and the Executive Committee for the significant time and energy they gave to make the New York Chapter better in our pursuit of and acknowledgment of excellence.  Sean Schenk, Ailette Artiles and Phyllis Bishop are also to be commended for their many contributions throughout 2018.  We will continue to serve our members and become a more active media trade organization.

May 2019 bring each of you many golden moments. Cheers!
