Important Announcement from NATAS President NJ Burkett

March 17, 2020

To the Members of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, New York Chapter and our 2020 Emmy Nominees:

It is with great regret that I am announcing that our 63rd Annual New York Emmy Awards gala, scheduled for April 18th, has been canceled.

For the past several weeks, the Board of Governors and I have been monitoring the evolving COVID-19 crisis here in New York City.  We have carefully reviewed the emergency orders issued by the Governor and the Mayor, as well as the directives from public health experts urging social distancing.  It became increasingly clear to us that the gala cannot and should not take place.

Our decision was made in the interests of your welfare, as well as that of our presenters, staff and workers at the Marriott Marquis and The Hard Rock Café. The Board and I continue to weigh our options for announcing the honorees. A decision will be forthcoming and I expect to announce a plan shortly.

This is a very difficult time for all of us; for our families, our friends and our valued industry colleagues. You have my compassion and abiding respect—especially those of you who must leave the security of your homes to carry on the vital work of keeping our region informed.

If you have specific questions, please contact Bob Lazo, Interim Director of Awards & Communications at awards@nyemmys.org. We are still processing name additions, and we urge your continued patience and understanding. If you need to contact me directly, please write me at president@nyemmys.org.

On behalf of the Board of Governors and the staff at the New York Chapter, I wish you good health and good luck.

Best personal regards,

N.J. Burkett, President
