The 3rd Annual NY Sports Emmy® Awards Livestreamed September 16TH Available for Viewing

The 3rd Annual New York Sports Emmy Awards were presented today at the New York Marriott Marquis. There were 46 NY Emmy Awards presented in 42 different categories.

The presenters were Gary Apple – SNY, Bruce Beck – WNBC TV, N.J.
Burkett – WABC TV, John Chandler – WNBC-TV, Lulu Gomez – WXTV
Univision 41, Virginia Huie - Newsday, Bob Lorenz – YES Network, Kevin
Maher – News 12, Stef Manisero – Spectrum News NY 1, Cardenas Pena - HITN, Bill Pidto – MSG Networks, Sam Rosen – MSG Networks, Sam Ryan – WABC TV & Marvin Scott – PIX 11.

John J. Filippelli of the YES Network was honored with the New York Chapter’s Governors’ Award for his 50 + years as a Sports Producer and Executive. This is the Chapter’s highest honor. 

David Stern, the President of the New York Chapter, stated, “In only the third year of the NY Sports Emmys as a separate competition, it is gratifying to see the huge number of entries and equally wonderful to see all of the new entities that are entering. It is a tribute to our team that has worked tirelessly with the leagues, teams, and broadcasters to secure their input for this special occasion.” 

NJ Burkett, NY Chapter Vice President & WABC-TV correspondent added, “The Board and I established the New York Sports Emmy Award to give our sports media professionals their own winner’s circle and the response has been thrilling. We recognize that sports programming has never been more popular or better produced than it is right now.” 

“This is a celebration of excellence in sports broadcasting” Awards Chair Marvin Scott added. “Awarding the Emmy is an opportunity to recognize the broadcasters who capture the drama, the passion, the unforgettable moments that unite fans everywhere.”

The Yes Network was honored with 7 NY Emmy Awards, the most of any organization. Nineteen different organizations received New York Emmy Awards including the following: SNY-6, NY Jets-6, News 12-4, Buffalo Bills3, MSG Network-3, NY Mets-3, WNBC TV-2, WXTV Univision 41 -2, 45 Live / New York Road Runners-1, Brooklyn Nets-1, CUNY TV-1, Hospital for Special Surgery-1, NJ Advance Media-1, NJ Devils-1, NY Liberty-1, WABC TV-1, WIVB TV-1, & WNJU Telemundo 47-1.

Ron Darling of SNY was honored with the New York Emmy Award for Game Analyst and Ian Eagle was presented the Play by Play award.

The YES Network and the New Jersey Devils and the YES Network were both awarded New York Emmy Awards for Sports Excellence, the highest honor an organization can receive in this competition.
