“Blau Jeans”
Produced & Moderated by Sumner Jules Glimcher.

Blau Jeans is an award-winning documentary that takes a rare look at the influence of American pop culture in the Capital city of Berlin and Germany’s love-hate relationship for all things American. This one-hour documentary covers from Post War Germany, East and West, to the dynamic Germany of today.  Renowned journalists artists, filmmakers, scholars including Richard Bernstein, Berlin Bureau Chief, The New York Times candidly discuss their first contact with America and how it continues to shape their lives.  "From Hip-Hop to Google, Star Wars"  to George W. Bush, a fascinating picture emerges of a country whose battles have become internal, with one side revering America's generosity and innovation and the other disdaining its arrogance and superficiality.  The striking soundtrack features German acclaimed BMG electronic artists 2raumwohnung and Universal Classic Music oboist Albrecht Mayer accompanied by the Berlin Philharmonic. Blau Jeans is a vivid, entertaining, and provocative look at how one country views the nation that can be loved or hated, but never ignored.

Statement of Director on Film:
“When I started Blau Jeans, I began it as a cultural documentary to see how American culture had an effect on the European and German psyche, in their lives growing up with movies and songs. And that led me to this big cloud of anti-Americanism. I discovered why they love us and why they hate us. There are certain characteristics that have come to be known as 'American' that Germans in Blau Jeans really articulate. Some are wonderful virtues and others are not so nice.”
