 		&ldquo\;Hollywood Goes to War&rdquo\;\n	\n Date: Monday, December 5, 20
 11\n	\n Location: NY NATAS, 1375 Broadway (between 37thand 38thStreets),
 Suite 2103\n	\n Reception: 6:00-6:30 PM ~ Program: 6:30-8:00 PM\n	\n \n
\n *Free to NY NATAS Members!\n	\n $15 for those without current NY NAT
 AS membership.\n	\n \n	\n To commemorate the upcoming 70th Anniversary
of Pearl Harbor, we will look back to see how Hollywood responded to the e
vents of December 7, 1941. This documentary illuminates how our government
enlisted the magic of show business and how countless stars such as Bob H
ope, The Andrews Sisters, Glenn Miller, Abbot &amp\; Costello, Bing Crosby
and Frank Sinatra all pitched-in for the war effort. All this was in tan
dem with the sweeping economic, political and social transformations on th
e home front that rocked American society during WWII, and for example, br
ought America&#39\;s women into war plants as &ldquo\;Rosie The Riveters.&
rdquo\; It was also the time of food and gasoline shortages, rationing, sc
rap drives, and Victory Gardens. Tin Pan Alley musicians joined Madison Av
enue advertising agencies to produce propaganda to portray Tojo, Hitler an
d their cohorts as diabolical villains and silly comic fools.\n	\n \n	\n
Hollywood stars geared up in an effort to prove that Americans solidly s
upported its troops. Scenes at the Hollywood Canteen and other Service Clu
bs show how enlisted men were honored and revered by stars and the public.
Dinah Shore was a club hostess, while Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra teame
d up with many others to sell War Bonds. Hollywood went overseas to put on
shows for troops in the war zones. Stars like Marlene Dietrich, Frances L
angford, Jerry Colona and Joe E. Brown joined Bob Hope on the battlefronts
to stage elaborate entertainment events for our servicemen. Armed Forces
Radio carried American swing music, news and pop culture around the world.
V-mail, and special radio broadcasts recorded on V-discs brought the home
front to the war front. America&#39\;s entertainers rallied both civilia
ns and our armed forces for all the challenges we had until WWII victory w
as finally declared in Europe and the Far East. And, you will see how it
 all happened in this nostalgic documentary.\n	\n \n	\n Harvey Chertok i
s the President of Quartet International, Inc., a worldwide production and
distribution company, and was the Series Coordinator for this program. Cu
rrently, he is also the Scholarship &amp\; Education Co-Chair for the NY C
hapter of NATAS and a former National Trustee. A number of his other produ
