 itle: Grey Gardens\nStart Date / Time: Feb 08, 2007 13:30 PM US/Eastern\nL
ocation: NY NATAS\nSpeaker: Albert Maysles\nWe are thrilled to present\nth
e original GREY GARDENS, produced by Albert &amp\; David\nMaysles, which i
s the basis of the musical now appearing on Broadway, and the\nHollywood f
eature, now in production. GREY GARDENS is a ninety-minute\nfeature docume
ntary of a mother-daughter relationship- the mother, Edith\nBouvier-Beale,
age 78, and her daughter, also Edith, age 56. Eccentric recluses,\nthey h
adn&#8217\;t left their house in 20 years. The house was in disrepair- a\n
decaying, run down mansion in East\nHampton\nwith half-a-dozen cats and se
veral raccoons. As Bouviers, they had felt tied\ndown to the confines of a
n American aristocratic family. As recluses, they could\nsing and dance, r
eminisce and, in sum, just be themselves. In the documentary,\ntheir lives
appear to be so fascinating there is a Broadway musical based on\n&#8220\
;Grey Gardens&#8221\; as well as a\nHollywood film in the making starring\
nJessica Lange and Drew Barrymore. The documentary has been shown successf
ully\ntheatrically (one review praised the two women for &#8220\;trusting
the vulnerability\nof just being themselves&#8221\;). Both Edies adored th
e film, the daughter describing\nit as a classic and the mother, (2 years
later) on her deathbed uttering her\nlast words, &#8220\;There&#8217\;s no
thing more to say\; it&#8217\;s all in the film.&#8221\; Some critics\nwer
e shocked by the openness and non-conformity of the two women\; but both t
he\nsubjects and the filmmakers had to agree with the London Times when it
described\nthe film as &#8220\;Extraordinary. One of the oddest, most bea
utiful films\never.&#8221\;\nLocation: NY NATAS office:\n1375 Broadway (be
