 Title: Meet the Filmmaker\nStart Date / Time: Apr 24, 2014 14:00 PM US/Eas
 tern\nLocation: \nSpeaker: \nMeet the Filmmaker: Sumner Jules Glimcher\n\n
 &quot\;Alberto Giacometti&quot\; &amp\; &ldquo\;Confucius&rdquo\; \n\nDate
 : Thursday, April 24, 2014\n\nLocation: NY NATAS, 1375 Broadway (between 3
 7th and 38th Streets), Suite 2103\n\nReception: 6:00-6:30 PM ~ Program: 6:
30-8:00 PM\n\n \n\n*Free to NY NATAS Members!\n\n$15 for those without cur
rent NY NATAS membership.\n\n \n\nProduced &amp\; Moderated by Sumner Jule
s Glimcher.\n\nOn this occasion, we plan to show two short films: Alberto
Giacometti, and Confucius.\n\nAlberto Giacometti was an Italian born sculp
tor who spent his creative life living and working in Paris. His two prin
cipal models were Annette, his wife, and Diego, his brother. He began his
career as an artist drawing sketches in black and white. After a while he
segued into sculpture and, at first, his figures were very small. Soon h
e found that they only had meaning for him when they became tall and slend
er. In this film, which was recorded at the Museum of Modern Art at his l
ast retrospective, we show all his work. After having recorded the images
the problem was to determine the script. The Producer found all his writ
ings in French, translated them into English, put them into chronological
order, and then illustrated the resulting narrative, in the first person v
oice of the artist, with appropriate images. An original score completed
the film, which became so highly regarded that it was enlarged from 16mm t
o 35mm, and shown at the Edinburgh Film Festival.\n\nCONFUCIUS was born in
the Province of Lu in China in 551 BC. In an amazing confluence of event
s, Aristotle, Gautama Buddha and Socrates, were all born within a hundred
years of one another! Although all became world-class philosophers, since
Confucius lived in the most populous nation on earth, his philosophy infl
uenced more individuals than any other throughout history. This film port
rays the ceremony, which originated during the Ming Dynasty, that celebrat
es his birthday on September 28. We interview several Confucian scholars,
his literal 88th descendent, and tell the story of his life and his belie
fs.\n\nSumner Jules Glimcher began his career at NBC, then worked for Radi
o Free Europe in Munich, pioneered in creating the first independent inter
national broadcast news service, the precursor of CNN, worked for WOR &amp
\; RKO General, taught at Harvard, Columbia and most recently as the Direc
tor of the Film Department @ NYU&rsquo\;s School of Continuing Education,
and had made scores of documentaries which have been awarded more than thr
ee dozen major national and international awards. He has lectured on elev
en luxury cruise liners, and has been a consultant to the President of Har
vard, to the United Nations, and for more than twenty years to the Consula
te General of Japan.\n\nSpace is limited. You must RSVP to info@nyem
mys.org to reserve a seat. Please write &ldquo\;Confucius&rdquo\; in the S
ubject Box.\n\n\n\n\n--- This iCal file does *NOT* confirm registration.Ev
