 lzbieta Szoka and Sam Adelman&#8220\;Welcome to Academia&#8221\; \n \nDate
 : Wednesday, December 2, 2009\nLocation: NY NATAS, 1375 Broadway, Suite 21

Members!\n$15 for those without current membership\n \nSex and power games
go hand in hand in Welcome to Academia, a dark satire that uses the unive
rsity as a metaphor for personal and professional relationships.\n \nAn id
ealistic graduate student of modern history on her journey to obtain a wel
l-deserved diploma learns the hard way that merit and intellect are not th
e most important values in the corrupt and indifferent environment that sh
e has faith in. The subject of her doctoral thesis, &#8220\;Aftermath: Yal
ta, the 20th Century, and Beyond,&#8221\; symbolizes the power structures
of her own reality&#8212\;her doctoral committee, known as the Hydra, repr
esents the three World War Two superpowers: the United States, Britain, an
d the Soviet Union.\n \nTo make matters worse, her charming but oblivious
thesis advisor abandons her amidst the swirl of departmental politics. Who
&#8217\;ll be the new Dean? Will the new President ruin the curriculum an
d get rid of tenure? And what will happen to our young, innocent student o
f modern history who has to pay a high price in order to get her well-dese
rved diploma? Will the 'rite of passage' that she has to go through make h
er end up like her oppressed oppressors?\n \nElzbieta Szoka (Executive Pro
