 asure of Stillness is an intimate documentary portrait about the life and 
 work of the critically acclaimed New York based dancer and choreographer, 
 Sally Gross, who has been performing for over 50 years. The film features 
 excerpts from her work as well as interviews with dance critics, collabora
 tors and friends. The film also captures Sally's unique history including 
 her days growing up as a daughter of immigrants in the Lower East Side of 
 New York City, her training with visionary choreographer Alwin Nikolais at
  Henry Street Playhouse, and her involvement in the legendary Judson Dance
  Theater. Now in her seventies, Sally still continues to choreograph and p
 erform. Verite style, filmmakers Albert Maysles and Kristen Nutile follow 
 this charismatic artist as she embarks on the unpredictable journey of cre
 ating a new work.\n\nThe film successfully premiered at the 2007 Locarno F
 ilm Festival in Switzerland, had its US premiere at the 2008 Full Frame Do
 cumentary Film Festival, played the festival circuit world-wide and was br
 oadcast on Thirteen/WNET the summer of 2008.\n\nALBERT MAYSLES, Filmmaker 
 and Cinematographer\nAlbert Maysles is a pioneer of Direct Cinema who, wit
 h his brother David, was the first to make nonfiction feature films where 
 the drama of life unfolds as is without scripts, sets, interviews or narra
 tion. Together with his brother David, he made over 36 films, including Wh
 at’s Happening? The Beatles in the USA (1964), Salesman (1968), Gimme Sh
 elter (1970), Grey Gardens (1976), as well as the Academy Award-Nominated 
 Valley Curtain (1973) plus five more films on the projects of artists Chri
 sto and Jeanne-Claude. In addition he worked on four documentaries for HBO
  of which Lalee's Kin was nominated for an Academy Award in 2001.\n\nKRIST
 EN NUTILE, Filmmaker and Editor\nKristen Nutile is an independent document
 ary filmmaker and editor based in New York City. Kristen has produced, dir
 ected and edited eight documentary shorts, which have shown all over the w
 orld including the Sundance Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival. S
 he is the 2006 recipient of the Albert Maysles Award for Excellence in Doc
 umentary Filmmaking and has received two grants from the Jerome Foundation
 .\n\nTANJA MEDING, Producer\nTanja Meding started working in the film indu
 stry in her native Germany in 1996. Between 1998 an 2003 she was the assoc
 iate producer for a world-traveled short feature collection at Ziegler Fil
 m, Berlin, working with well known filmmakers from around the world. Since
  moving to New York in 2003, Tanja has worked for Maysles Films as well as
  other independent productions. In 2007 she started producing award-winnin
 g choreographer-filmmaker duo ChameckiLerner and is currently working on t
 hree TV specials for National Geographic for Marabella Productions.\n\n\n\
