A Message from the Executive Director, Jacqueline J. Gonzalez

A new era of change is taking place not only in the political arena it is prevalent in every area of our industry. The increasing importance of digital media and the role it plays in redefining every aspect of the communications landscape from stimulating brand recognition to creating social networks is obvious. 

Here at the New York EMMY® Awards we recognize the increasing influence of Advanced Media and have responded by recognizing excellence in this new dimension of television.  Last year, for the first time in our history we honored original material created for broadband and portable delivery.   In our efforts to grow and reflect the changes in our industry we recognized artistic and technical achievements in eleven new categories of Advanced Media.    

This year we honored original content created for non-traditional platforms in six programming areas and five craft areas. By the close of our 2009 EMMY® entry season, we had a record number of Advanced Media entries that resulted in 48 nominated and 11 winning entries.  In all 102 EMMY® Awards were presented at our 52nd Annual black-tie gala held on Sunday, March 29th. A cast of VIP stars from Daytime, Primetime, Broadway and News broadcasting presented the Awards and New York's Senior Senator Chuck Schumer bestowed our Chapter's highest honor, The Governors' Award, to Katie Couric. It was truly a wonderful evening of celebration for our industry.
