Here’s a look back to see how Hollywood responded to Pearl Harbor and Hitler in WWII. CBS legendary journalist/reporter Eric Sevareid narrates the following three programs which illuminate how countless stars such as The Andrews Sisters, Glenn Miller, Abbot & Costello, Frank Sinatra, and Bob Hope all pitched in for the war effort.  Each of the programs is thirty minutes long.
1) HOLLYWOOD GOES TO WAR: The American government enlists the extensive skills of Hollywood filmmakers, Tin Pan Alley musicians and Madison Avenue advertising agencies to produce propaganda for domestic consumption. Hitler and his cohorts are depicted as diabolical villains and comic fools.

2) THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES: American show business gears up in an effort to prove that Americans solidly support our troops. Scenes at the Hollywood Canteen and other service clubs show ordinary American enlisted men honored and revered by stars and the public. Dinah Shore leads tours of the Hollywood Canteen while Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra team up in an informal duet to sell war bonds.

3) ACCENTUATING THE POSITIVE: Hollywood goes overseas to put on shows for troops in the war zones. Stars like Bob Hope, Frances Langford, Jerry Colona, Joe E. Brown and Marlene Dietrich stage elaborate events for servicemen. Armed Forces Radio carries American swing music, news and pop culture around the world. V-mail and special radio broadcasts recorded on V-discs bring the home front to the war front.
